Ushuaia + My winter gear guide

Sep 19

I have made it home to Whistler after a 10 day trip to the end of the world: Ushuaia, Argentina. I arrived at our Argentina camp one week later than the rest of my team so I could be a part of one of my best friends wedding. Megan and Justin got married in Lake Louise and it was an amazing day, so happy for them! I immediately hoped on a plane the next day to begin the 50 hour trip to get to the most southern point of South America. I lucked out and missed the bad weather and icy conditions on the course… well it was still pretty firm! I only had 7 days to train so I had no time to waste. I was able to work my way through my jumps and turns and get up to full degree of difficulty (back flip and front flip) and speed. By the end of the camp I was working on full competition runs, still lots of fine tuning to do before December, but my base is there! I am really happy with my short but successful camp down in Ushuaia. The food, accommodation and travel day home is another story… let’s just say I am happy to be back in Canada.

I wanted to do a special winter gear guide in this blog post. I have been trying out a lot of new equipment this fall and wanted to share with you what I will be competing in this winter. I will be skiing bumps on the “Volkl Walls.” I have found this ski to be awesome on the flats as well as the bumps and holds a great edge. For boots I will be wearing the “Dalbello KR Storm ID Avio’s,” they have added heat mouldable Intuition liners this year. I just broke these boots in with pretty much zero foot pain, they have a great buckle system and plus they are super warm. For bindings, I will be using the “Marker Jester’s.” My outerwear will be the new Columbia Canada team suit with the super warm “omni-heat” lining. To protect my head, the “Giro Shiv 2” helmet in white bokeh which I find is a super light helmet that fits well with my goggles. My new favorite goggle would have to be the “Giro Onset’s,” they have such a wide field of view and really cool lens colours. I am wearing the white icon frame right now.

That is it for now! Below I have posted pictures of my new gear as well as some photos from our camp in Ushuaia. Next up, I will be spending the next two weeks in the Whistler gym preparing for our big fall camp in Zermatt, Switzerland starting October 5th. Winter is coming…
